Every year on April 22, the world celebrates the Earth Day, reminding us of the need to protect our natural heritage and combat environmental challenges. This year's theme, 'Act for Earth' focuses on proactive steps that everyone can take to reduce their environmental impact.
Under the slogan "Women's leadership for the protection of the environment and sustainable development", a Forum was held in Kyiv on June 15, at which 100 women from all over Ukraine received Green Heart Leader Award. The purpose of the Forum is to present examples of women's leadership in difficult times, to draw attention to the great responsibility of those who have the courage to lead, move the environmental agenda and help people.
1000 participants, over 50 countries and 20 ministers of environment and education. That was a ninth Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference 2022 in Cyprus. An event that transforms and adopts the policy of green economy, sustainable infrastructure, tourism and education for sustainable development for the region.
The war in Ukraine has caused extensive damage and loss of life in key population centres, spread across rural areas, and sparked massive displacement. As of mid-May, more than 5,6 million people had been forced to abandon their homes and flee across borders to safety. Over 8 million more are internally displaced.
In 2021-2022 the GEF SGP Ukraine team has successfully participated in the UNDP Crowdfunding Academy. It is an interactive training and capacity-building program that empowers organizations with the necessary knowledge and skills to prepare and run a successful crowdfunding campaign.
As we collectively address the global climate and nature crises, it is absolutely critical to engage youth as agents of change, creative entrepreneurs and innovators. Through education, science and technology, young people are scaling up their efforts and skills to accelerate concrete actions.
