The grant project implemented by NGO “Ecological Heating” and supported by the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme in Ukraine provided households, which are hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs), with solid fuel boilers. They will heat buildings and thus mitigate climate changes.

On 4 June, the winners of the National Children’s Competition “Second Life of Waste” were announced and awarded. The contest was held in the framework of the annual All-Ukrainian Environmental Forum organized by the Partnership Network “Education for Sustainable Development” and supported by the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. The competition raised the awareness of the schoolchildren on existing environmental issues related to household waste and helped develop a responsible approach to environment protection.
On 5 June, people celebrate the World Environment Day. Ukrainian schoolchildren and their teachers have also joined this campaign.
4-5 June, the annual All-Ukrainian Environmental Forum “Children for Environment: The Future We Want!" was organized by the Partnership Network “Education for Sustainable Development in Ukraine” and supported by the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
Today the international community celebrates the International Day for Biodiversity. Schoolchildren from different parts of Rokytne district in Rivne region has been joining the celebration for the last three years by taking part in the worldwide campaign The Green Wave. It is a global biodiversity campaign to educate children and youth about biodiversity.
This month Lysychansk School No 29 became energy-efficient due to the installation of two modern solid fuel boilers within the grant project implemented by NGO “Eco-Safety of Environment” and supported by the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme in Ukraine.
On April 16 a round table discussion “Implementation of Environmentally Safe Solid Waste Management System in Zaporizhia Region” was held in Zaporizhia. The event was supported by the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Ecological Policy, Natural Resources and Elimination of the Consequences of the Chernobyl Disaster, Zaporizhia Regional State Administration, Zaporizhia Regional Federation of Employers and the project “Strengthening Environmental Governance by Building the Capacity of Non-Governmental Organizations” funded by the EU within the framework of the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme in Ukraine. Ecological Recycling Association of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Environmental League and NGO “Geosystem” organized the roundtable.
NGO “Healing Power” has been implementing a demonstration project “Eco-friendly practices implementation through the creation of waste treatment facilities in local school” for nine months since August 2014 to May 2015. The project is supported by the Small Grants Programme of the Global Environment Facility implemented by the United Nations Development Programme.
In April 2015, a wooden pellet production facility was built and put into operation in village Bereztsi in Zhytomyr region of Ukraine with the support of the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP). The SGP project aims to achieve a significant impact on reducing the consumption of non-renewable natural resources in the region.
