 DSC0361 копия11-12 October 2017, a training on project cycle management was held for local women farmers in Zaporizhya in conjunction with International Day of Rural Women, proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on October 15. The event was conducted by  the UNDP/GEF Small Grants Program (SGP) in Ukraine in close cooperation with  the UN Office in Ukraine, Association of Rural Women-Farmers in Zhaporizhya region, NGO “Household farming”, community members of Sokolivka, Yurkivka and Pokrovske  villages.

Over 40 women farmers participated in the training. This two-day exercise was aimed to increase the capacities of local women in the Zaporizhya region, empower to participation in grant competitions, raise the level of environmental consciousness and promote innovative local initiatives. The participants had an opportunity to learn the best practices and examples of successful initiatives in such themetic areas as education for sustainable development, low-carbon technologies, agroecology in combination with rural green tourism,  biodiversity conservation in cooperation with national nature parks, educational institutions and youth. The women farmers had an opportunity not only to learn innovative agroecological methods, but to  share their experience and enjoy various local agricultural products.

UNDP Depute Country Director Ms. Van Nguen visited the training and welcomed women farmers. She reassured the continuous commitment of United Nations Development Programme to work closely with women farmers and local communities. Ms. Nguen emphesized thet international day recognizes “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.”
